This gathering invites Indigenous peoples living in Vancouver to bead and learn about Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) as a legal standard and a living tool for their own advocacy and rights protection. Grounded in NEPENEḴ’s Nation-led, relational facilitation approach, participants will explore what FPIC means under both BCʼs Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA, 2019) and Canadaʼs UN Declaration Act (UNDA, 2021), who is legally required to obtain it and for what purposes, and how Indigenous peoples can identify when FPIC applies and how to use it. Youth will leave with practical skills for recognizing, asserting, and monitoring FPIC across every area of their lives, from resource development on their territories to decisions about their schools, health, and cultural practices.
