Free, Prior and Informed Consent Workshop
Katisha hosted a workshop on Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), the standard affirmed in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples that Indigenous Peoples' consent must be sought before decisions affecting their lands, territories and rights.
Indigenous leaders, business owners, artists, policy analysts, consultants and tourism specialists were in the room, along with two newly elected Vancouver City Councillors who joined as witnesses.
We heard from people who keep showing up on the front lines to protect our lands and the rights of our women, 2S+ relatives, and future generations. Title and rights holders talked about the strength of our inherent rights and our responsibility to protect our cultures and languages that are derived from the land as we navigate the implementation of international law.
